Charles and Camilla in Austria: State Dinner

On Wednesday evening, President van der Bellen of Austria and his wife, Doris Schmidauer, hosted a state dinner for the Prince of Wales and the Duchess of Cornwall at the Hofburg Palace in Vienna.

Camilla wore the pearl choker necklace with the larger, cross-shaped diamond clasp and diamond earrings from Van Cleef and Arpels’s classic Alhambra collection. Camilla has several pieces from the line.

She also wore a diamond bracelet on her left wrist.

After wrapping up their visit to Italy and the Vatican, the Prince of Wales and the Duchess of Cornwall hopped a plane to Vienna for an Austrian visit on Wednesday.

Camilla wore a lovely black ensemble with striking white embroidery to meet with President Alexander Van der Bellen and First Lady Doris Schmidauer at Hofburg Palace.

Along with touring the apartments at the Hofburg (which used to be the winter home of the Habsburgs), Charles and Camilla stopped by Café Demel, where they were treated to a demonstration of traditional pastry-making techniques.

Camilla wore diamond and pearl earrings and one of her pearl choker necklaces (the one with the round diamond clasp) for the day’s events.

She also wore her usual bracelets on her left wrist, plus her engagement and wedding rings.

This is one of my favorite outfits of the trip so far. I’m not one of the people who was upset by her outfit during the Vatican trip, but I’m rather surprised this wasn’t her choice for that occasion — just to quiet any potential criticism. Perhaps she wanted to save it for the glamour of the Hofburg?

Japanese/Spanish State Visit: Prime Minister Visit

The Spanish state visit to Japan continued on Thursday with a meeting with Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe in Tokyo.

Once again, Queen Letizia delved into her mother-in-law’s jewelry collection, wearing a pair of diamond and ruby earrings previously worn by Queen Sofia.

Letizia has worn this pair of earrings in public before. Her most memorable appearance in the earrings, without a doubt, was at the wedding of Crown Prince Frederik and Crown Princess Mary of Denmark in Copenhagen in 2004. On that occasion, Letizia wore the earrings with a pair of diamond and ruby clips that belonged to her husband’s grandmother, the Countess of Barcelona.

For today’s meeting, Letizia paired the earrings with a dress that featured Japanese-inspired fabrics and draping.
