Crown Princess Victoria of Sweden treated us to a festival of heirloom jewels in her recent tenth anniversary portraits — and the debut of a very modern bejeweled headpiece! Here’s a closer look at the Nocturnal Creatures Tiara.

The headpiece was made by jeweler Maria Nilsdotter, who specializes in pieces that are “inspired by a mysterious, dark, yet sparkling fantasy world.” Her website explains, “Drawing inspiration from the mysterious qualities of nocturnal creatures, the Nocturnal Creatures Tiara is a balance of delicate details and elegant form.” (Credit goes to Sarah Williams for identifying the piece!)

Here’s a zoomed-in version of the anniversary portrait that features the tiara. Victoria emphasized the piece’s design by placing it strategically in her hair.

Nilsdotter’s website notes that the tiara is “handcrafted in sterling silver with oxidized detailing, and adorned with lustrous freshwater pearls and lemon quartz leaves.”

A close-up view reveals that the headpiece is adorned with insects and spiders as well as lemon quartz leaves and pearls, officially qualifying it for inclusion in the category of creepy-crawly royal jewels.
