The Bernadottes gathered near Stockholm today for the christening of their littlest prince, Gabriel, at the chapel at Drottningholm Palace. Here’s a look at the jewels we saw the senior royal ladies wear for the important family occasion.

In a move that surprised me quite a lot, Princess Sofia chose to wear a national costume for her second son’s christening. (Here’s what she wore for the christening of Prince Alexander about a year ago.) The national attire includes a silver brooch at the wearer’s throat. She also pinned her father-in-law’s family order to her ensemble.

In this closer view, we can see that she also wore her small diamond hoop earrings.

Prince Gabriel’s grandmother, Queen Silvia of Sweden, was ultra-elegant in blue with pearl accents for the christening. Her husband’s family order coordinated nicely with the outfit.

Crown Princess Victoria, Gabriel’s aunt, wore a chic red ensemble for the christening, pairing it with large diamond-encrusted hoop earrings. We can also see here that she wore a silver bracelet and her wedding and engagement rings, plus her father’s family order.

Here’s a look at Victoria’s entire ensemble, which echoes the 1950s couture heyday of Dior and other French designers.

Princess Madeleine of Sweden served as one of her nephew’s godparents at the christening. She wore pearls; you can also spot gold bracelets and a sparkling band on her right hand.

Here’s a better look at both Madeleine’s and Sofia’s outfits for the day. The next christening will be for Madeleine’s third child, who will be born next spring.

Prince Gabriel has five godparents: Carolina Pihl, Sara Hellqvist, Thomas de Toledo Sommerlath, Princess Madeleine, and Oscar Kylberg.

And as usual, the real star of the show was baby Gabriel’s big brother, Prince Alexander, who even managed a little wave to the gathered crowd.
