Every year, the Danish royal family gathers in Copenhagen for the annual New Year’s levee and banquet at Christian VII’s Palace at Amalienborg. The celebration is one of the grandest events on the Danish royal calendar, as it is one of a handful of “collar days” for the Order of the Elephant. The ladies of the royal family pair grand jewels with the golden collar of the order, which you can learn more about here. Since the tradition won’t happen as usual today, thanks to the continuing pandemic restrictions, I’ve got a look back at the sparkle from years past. Diamonds, velvet, satin, and one very recognizable royal fur stole: here are the jewels and grandeur of New Year’s Day in Denmark!
