Grand Duke Henri and Grand Duchess Maria Teresa were able to make it to Copenhagen for Queen Margrethe’s 70th birthday concert gala, and Maria Teresa brought along some dazzling family jewels.

With her neutral gown and the sash of the Order of the Elephant, Maria Teresa wore pieces from the family’s collection of diamond and emerald jewels.

The look was anchored by the Chaumet Emerald Tiara, a legacy from the reign of Grand Duchess Charlotte. Maria Teresa paired the tiara with the family’s diamond and emerald earrings. The sleek emerald and diamond choker necklace comes from the collection of her husband’s grandmother, Queen Astrid of Belgium. (The piece was originally worn as a bracelet.)

Maria Teresa kept the emerald and diamond theme going with the brooch she used to secure the sash of the Order of the Elephant, as well as a diamond and emerald bracelet, a diamond and emerald evening watch, a diamond ring, and a diamond and emerald ring.

Back in 2010, when a volcanic eruption disrupted European travel, Crown Princess Mette-Marit was the only member of the Norwegian royal family who was able to make it to Copenhagen for Queen Margrethe II’s 70th birthday concert — but she arrived in bejeweled style!

Because Crown Prince Haakon was stranded in London and unable to attend the concert, Mette-Marit arrived for the gala with Crown Prince Frederik and Crown Princess Mary of Denmark.

With the gown, Mette-Marit wore pieces from the family’s amethyst parure, including the tiara. The piece is a converted necklace.

The rest of Mette-Marit’s jewelry was dainty, including simple bracelets on each wrist. She also wore the sash and star of the Order of St. Olav (her highest Norwegian order). Mette-Marit has the Danish Order of the Elephant now, but she didn’t back in 2010, so she wore her highest Norwegian order instead. You’ll also spot her father-in-law’s Royal Family Order pinned to her dress.

Back in 2010, some European royals had travel plans for Queen Margrethe’s 70th birthday postponed because of the Icelandic volcanic eruptions, but others were able to make it, including a trio from Sweden! Here’s a look at the jewels worn by Crown Princess Victoria for the concert gala.

Victoria was escorted by two handsome men as she arrived at the gala: her brother, Prince Carl Philip of Sweden, and her fiance, Daniel Westling. She and Daniel had announced their engagement more than a year earlier, in February 2009. Their wedding was held a few months later, in June 2010.

For the concert, Victoria wore the Swedish Four-Button Tiara. The tiara features four antique diamond rosettes set on a simple frame. It was assembled in the 1950s, using four matched diamond buttons, for the use of Victoria’s aunts, the Haga Princesses.

With the tiara, Victoria wore a pair of small diamond drop earrings with major history. These were originally drops on Queen Josefina’s Diamond Stomacher, which is now arranged for wear as a necklace.

Victoria’s diamond engagement ring was visible on her left hand. She wore several pieces of chivalric insignia, too: the sash and star of the Order of the Elephant (her highest Danish order), the star of the Order of the Seraphim (her highest Swedish order), and her father’s Royal Family Order.
