Queen Margrethe II of Denmark is currently in France for her annual summer holiday at her home in Cahors, the Chateau de Cayx. Pieces from her collection of daisy jewelry took center stage at Thursday’s photocall on the grounds of the chateau.

There’s a good reason for Margrethe to collect daisy-themed accessories: Daisy is her nickname! (The name Margrethe comes from marguerite, the French word for the flower.) Daisies also happen to be Denmark’s national flower.

For this summery appearance, Margrethe chose pieces from Georg Jensen’s classic line of daisy jewels. She wore the earrings, which feature the line’s distinctive white enamel petals…

…and the coordinating brooch, pinned to the collar of her dress.

The photocall also let us glimpse some additional important pieces of personal jewelry. On her right hand, she wore a ring set with a turquoise; modern pieces of turquoise jewelry were often given to her by her late husband, Prince Henrik. A very famous gift from Henrik, her toi et moi engagement ring, is visible on her left hand. And on her left wrist, beside her watch, she wears the slim gold bangle worn by all female descendants of Queen Ingrid.

Margrethe’s had a tough year, and even though it’s a little bittersweet to see her alone this summer at the retreat she shared with Henrik for so many years, it’s really great to see her relaxed and smiling, daisies and all.
