The month of August is always a slow one for royal watchers: few scheduled appearances, lots of families on holiday. August 2020 was no different, but we still have a few interesting pieces of jewelry to enjoy from royal outings this month.

In Denmark, Crown Princess Mary wore a pair of modern gold statement earrings on August 19. Mary, who was recently appointed president of the World Wide Fund for Nature, wore the earrings as she helped release Thornback rays into the sea from the Kattegat Center in Grenaa.

Gold hoop earrings were also popular with another royal in August: the Duchess of Cambridge. Kate wore sleek gold double hoops as she helped to unpack supplies during her visit to Baby Basics in Sheffield on August 4. She also wore an engraved gold necklace, which is studded with three small diamonds, from Daniella Draper.

On August 5, Kate paired the same Daniella Draper necklace with gold-plated squared hoop earrings by a Welsh designer, Hayley Jones. The choice of a Welsh brand was especially appropriate, as the Cambridges were on a day of engagements in South Wales. (More on the earrings from our friends at What Kate Wore over here!) Here, Kate wears the jewelry (and a stylish mask) to chat with residents at the Shire Hall Care Home in Cardiff.

In Sweden, Crown Princess Victoria wore festive green agate earrings from Ebba Brahe for a visit to “wip:sthlm” in Stockholm on August 26. The organization aims to provide a space for collaboration and creative work for artists. (More on the earrings from our friend Sarah Williams over here!)

On August 15, Empress Masako of Japan wore pearls in Tokyo as she joined Emperor Naruhito in commemorating the 75th anniversary of the end of World War II.

In England, the Prince of Wales and the Duchess of Cornwall also commemorated the 75th anniversary of the end of the war, attending a national service of remembrance at the National Memorial Arboretum in Alrewas on August 15. For the service, Camilla also wore pearls: her favorite pearl drop earrings and her pearl choker necklace with the round diamond clasp.

On August 14, the Princess Royal celebrated her 70th birthday. To mark the milestone, a set of new official portraits were released. Taken by John Swannell in February 2020, the photographs show Anne posing at her home in Gloucestershire, Gatcombe Park. Two of the images feature some interesting jewels. And finally, we’ll finish up our review with one of the most glittering royal moments of August, courtesy of Princess Beatrix of the Netherlands. On August 16, she attended a concert by the European Union Youth Orchestra at the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam. For the occasion, she donned diamond floral earrings with a diamond and pearl station necklace, plus a coordinating bracelet.
