Celebrating Princess Mako’s Japanese Imperial Jewels

Today in Tokyo, the Imperial Household Agency officially registered the marriage of Princess Mako of Akishino, daughter of the Crown Prince and Crown Princess of Japan, and her longtime fiancé, Kei Komuro. As Japan bids farewell to the princess, who leaves both the imperial house and the country following her marriage, we look back at her decade of sparkling gala appearances.

Floral Tiara Tournament: Week Three Results!

The votes have been tallied in our third week of floral tiara contests!

Daisies and roses met up in this tiara contest! Though the Douglas Floral Tiara was chosen by 29.04% of voters, Princess Dagmar’s Floral Tiara won the day with 70.96% of the vote.

This British aristocratic match-up was a close one! The Strathmore Rose Tiara was the winner with 54.74% of the vote, but the Heathcote Tiara was close on its heels with 45.26%.

Would it be the chrysanthemums or the roses? The Imperial Chrysanthemum Tiara won a commanding victory in this round, bringing in 81.73% of the votes, while the Teck Crescent Tiara trailed with 18.27%.

These Scandinavian bandeaux are close jewelry cousins. While 23.2% of voters selected the Turquoise Daisy Bandeau, the Diamond Daisy Bandeau won the round with 76.8% of the vote.

The Wall of Diamonds does it again! Queen Alexandra’s Kokoshnik won our first contest of the week with 69.51% of the vote, while the Belgian Scroll Tiara was chosen by 30.49% of voters.

Our Cinderella’s Big Dance has finally come to a close. Though 45.41% of you selected Queen Mary’s Diamond Bandeau, the Danish Floral Aigrette won the day with 54.59% of the vote.

This one was a major upset! Even in its widowed form, the Vladimir Tiara triumphed with 51.65% of the vote, while the number-one-seeded Meiji Tiara brought in 48.35%.
