Catching Up With Kate’s Earrings

The Duchess of Cambridge has had a busy few days of royal engagements — one of which involved a brand-new pair of earrings! Here’s a look at the jewelry she’s worn this week.

On Sunday, William, Kate, and Harry participated in a London Marathon Training Day at the Queen Elizabeth II Olympic Park in support of one of their charitable endeavors, Heads Together. For an engagement that involved athletics, Kate sensibly chose simple jewelry: a new pair of diamond and sapphire disk stud earrings from Asprey. She has previously worn a pendant that coordinates with these earrings.

Kate chose a familiar pair of earrings for Monday’s Place2Be Big Assembly in London: her Mappin and Webb Empress earrings. A thin silver chain is also visible around Kate’s neck, so I think she may have also worn the coordinating pendant on under her red jacket.

On Monday evening, William and Kate attended the Guild of Health Writers Conference in London. She wore the same Mappin and Webb earrings with a new set of magenta separates from Oscar de la Renta. I’m a little disappointed that she repeated her daytime jewelry here — I think the diamond and pearl earrings that she has borrowed from the Queen would have looked lovely with this outfit. (This color is gorgeous on Kate!)

7. The Nizam of Hyderabad Necklace: This Cartier diamond necklace was one of the Queen’s wedding presents in 1947; Kate borrowed it for an event at the National Portrait Gallery. (More, including great close-ups, over here!)

6. Queen Mary’s Choker Bracelet: Another loaner from the Queen, this bracelet, which was made from a choker necklace worn by Queen Mary, was also worn by the late Queen Mother. (Closer views over here!)

5. The Edinburgh Wedding Gift Bracelet: This bracelet is a very sentimental loan from the Queen to Kate; it was her wedding present from the Duke of Edinburgh in 1947. The diamonds on the bracelet were taken from a tiara that belonged to his mother, Princess Andrew. That tiara was her wedding gift from Tsar Nicholas II and Tsarina Alexandra of Russia! 4. Queen Mary’s Lover’s Knot Tiara: This iconic tiara is another loan from the Queen. Made for Queen Mary, it’s also been worn by the Queen and, more famously, by the late Diana, Princess of Wales. (More over here!)

3. The Sapphire and Diamond Engagement Ring: Made by Garrard, Kate’s famous sapphire and diamond cluster engagement ring originally belonged to her late mother-in-law, Princess Diana. William gave the ring to Kate as a way to include his mother in their engagement and wedding celebrations. (Much more over here!)

2. The Queen’s Diamond Chandelier Earrings: These delicate, lovely diamond chandelier earrings were one of the Queen’s earliest jewel loans to Kate; she wore them for the first time during a visit to America shortly after the royal wedding. (More over here!)

1. The Lotus Flower Tiara: My favorite of the three tiaras that Kate has worn so far, this diamond and pearl sparkler originally belonged to the Queen Mother. It was worn for years by Princess Margaret, and it was also the bridal diadem worn by her daughter-in-law, Viscountess Linley (now Countess of Snowdon). Kate’s most prominent appearance in the tiara so far was at the Chinese state banquet in 2015. (More over here!)

14. The Modern Diamond and Emerald Demi-Parure: Worn for a New York fundraising gala for her alma mater, the University of St Andrews, this elaborate suite of jewels includes a large pair of earrings and a matching bracelet. (More over here!)

13. The Sapphire and Diamond Fringe Earrings: This unique pair of sapphire drop earrings, which features a delicate diamond fringe, belonged to the late Queen Mum. (More over here!)

12. The Diamond Maple Leaf Brooch: Another jewel from the Queen Mother’s collection, this Asprey diamond brooch has been lent to Kate by the Queen for both of her trips to Canada. (More over here!)

11. The Diamond and Pearl Earrings: In 2016, Kate began wearing this classic pair of earrings, which feature a pearl drop suspended from a diamond stud. The Queen wore these during her Silver Jubilee, and she’s also loaned them in the past to the Countess of Wessex. (More over here!)

10. The Diamond Frame Earrings: Another jewelry loan from the Queen, these diamond earrings feature a floral stud, a diamond pendant, and a diamond frame. Kate began wearing these for evening engagements in 2016. (More over here!)

8. The Cartier Halo Tiara: Speaking of Kate’s wedding tiara … the Cartier Halo, which originally belonged to the Queen Mother, became an instant classic when Kate wore it on her wedding day in 2011. (More on its history over here!)
