Happy August, magpies! It’s a new month, which means it’s also time for a new Magpie of the Month here at The Court Jeweller. This month, we’re celebrating the jewels of one of the coolest royal women around: Crown Princess Mette-Marit of Norway. And we’re kicking things off with a look at the earrings she wore this weekend at one of the biggest European society weddings of the year: the Borromeo-Casiraghi nuptials.

For the wedding on Saturday in Italy, Mette-Marit wore a bohemian floral dress that was made a bit less twee courtesy black accents at the collar and waist. Mette-Marit made the entire look even edgier — perfect for a princess who, after all, met her prince at a rock concert — by adding additional black accessories, including a black headband and a pair of dark, dangling earrings.

The earrings aren’t a new addition to Mette-Marit’s jewel box. She’s been wearing them for almost a decade. Above, she pairs them with a dark fur and a neutral-colored gown for the 70th birthday celebrations for her father-in-law, King Harald V of Norway, in 2007.

The long earrings have three distinct sections. I’m not sure who the designer is, but to me, these look to be diamonds or a similar pale gemstone set in a dark metal, perhaps oxidized white gold.

Mette-Marit also wore the earrings with a navy blue lace dress for the Nobel Prize concert in 2012.
