A Wedding Tiara for Beatrice?

Speculation is amping up in the press that Princess Beatrice of York will soon be engaged to marry her boyfriend, Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi. The two have made several recent high-profile appearances together, and some press rumors even state that she’s now living with him and his young son.

Edoardo, who is in real estate, has also popped up at a few royal events. He was Beatrice’s date for Lady Gabriella Windsor’s wedding earlier this year — an event that was also attended by the Queen. He also recently accompanied her to an event at St. James’s Palace. With all that in mind, I think it’s time for some totally premature wedding tiara speculation, don’t you think? (It’s TCJ tradition!) Here are five royal tiara options that I think would suit on Beatrice for her (rumored) big day.

The Queen Mother, ca. 1920s
This romantic diamond floral tiara was most recently seen in 2012, when it was photographed for The Queen’s Diamonds. I’d love to see this as a wedding tiara for Princess Beatrice, who tends toward the romantic in her personal style. The tiara has two frames, one for wear across the forehead (as the Queen Mum did above), and another for more traditional positioning atop the head. I think it would be beautiful with a gown and a veil!

For a sleeker silhouette, Beatrice might opt for the diamond lozenge tiara that belonged to Queen Mary. The petite kokoshnik forms a diamond halo around the wearer’s head, as you can see on a young Princess Margaret in the 1940s. The tiara hasn’t been seen in decades, and it would be another delightful retrieval from the royal vaults!

We’ve seen this tiara in recent years, as the Duchess of Cambridge has sported it a few times at white-tie receptions and banquets. That may mean that the tiara is still on loan to Kate, but if it’s back in the pool of available sparklers, I think it would be a smashing choice for Beatrice’s wedding tiara. We’ve already seen it work wonderfully on another Windsor family bride!

Beatrice could follow in the footsteps of her sister, Princess Eugenie, and wear colorful gems for her big day. Sapphire is definitely Beatrice’s color, and this spectacular diamond and sapphire bandeau from Queen Mary’s collection would be a lovely choice for a “something old,” a “something borrowed,” and a “something blue”!

Beatrice’s parents haven’t exactly been enjoying good press lately, to put it mildly, but if she decides to be sentimental anyway, she might choose to wear her mother’s wedding tiara. The diamond sparkler was a gift from the Queen and Prince Philip, and Sarah kept it after her divorce. It’s presumably still in her jewelry safe today.

In Scandinavia, royal weddings are tiara affairs for all of the guests. Today, we’ve got a look at the tiaras worn by Queen Margrethe II of Denmark, Queen Silvia of Sweden, and Queen Sonja of Norway as mother of the bride (or groom!).

For the wedding of her daughter, Princess Martha Louise of Norway, to Ari Behn in 2002, Queen Sonja wore Queen Josefina’s Diamond Tiara with other diamond pieces, including diamond earrings that once belonged to Queen Alexandra of the United Kingdom.
