The Duchess of Sussex’s Wedding Reception Jewels

The new Duke and Duchess of Sussex had a costume change after their wedding breakfast at Windsor Castle, swapping out their wedding duds for evening attire — and a very sentimental piece of jewelry!

While Harry donned a tuxedo, Meghan changed into a second gown, this time by Stella McCartney. (Also: note Harry’s platinum wedding ring in this shot. Nice!)

She also changed her earrings. These appear to be diamond earrings from Cartier, and it looks like they match the bracelet she wore during the wedding ceremony.

According to Laurie Brookins, the wedding bracelet is the Reflection de Cartier style, made of diamonds set in 18-carat white gold. The earrings appear to be from the same collection.

And see that big blue flash on her right hand? Get excited, Diana fans: Meghan is indeed wearing the large emerald-cut aquamarine ring that belonged to the late Diana, Princess of Wales! How impressive is this??? A lovely “something blue” for Meghan from her late mother-in-law.

As if the ring weren’t enough of a “something blue,” the soles of Meghan’s shoes were also baby blue — as is the sports car that they hopped in for the drive to Frogmore House. This should be the last we see of them today. Hasn’t it been a glorious day for jewels???

The Royal Collection Trust has generously provided hi-res handout photographs of Queen Mary’s Diamond Bandeau, which the new Duchess of Sussex wore this morning for her wedding. You know what that means — it’s bejeweled close-up time!

The Royal Collection has also provided a little additional information about the tiara: “It was specifically made for Queen Mary in 1932 to accommodate in the centre the detachable brooch given as a present for her own wedding in 1893 by the County of Lincoln.”

They add, “The bandeau, chosen from Her Majesty’s collection, is formed as a flexible band of eleven sections, pierced with interlaced ovals and set with large and small brilliant diamonds. The centre is set with the detachable brooch of ten brilliant diamonds.” Queen Mary sometimes wore the tiara with other brooches in place of the County of Lincoln Brooch, which is shown in detail here.

The tiara hasn’t been seen in public for more than half a century. The Royal Collection explains, “The bandeau and the brooch were bequeathed by Queen Mary to The Queen in 1953.”

The Windsors showed up in droves today at St. George’s Chapel to watch the Duke and Duchess of Sussex exchange vows and rings. Here’s a look at the jewels that the royals wore for the big celebration!

The Queen wore her usual daytime pearl necklace and earrings with one of the grandest brooches in her collection: Queen Mary’s Richmond Brooch.

The Duchess of Cornwall picked her most impressive daytime necklace: the five-stranded pearl choker with the large pink topaz and diamond clasp. She paired it with her usual daytime pearl drop earrings.

The Duchess of Cambridge was also wearing a large ring on her right hand. I don’t have details yet on this one, either. Will update if I get them!

The wedding was also attended by several members of the extended family. The Countess of Snowdon, daughter-in-law of Princess Margaret, wore her customary pearls.

Lady Sarah Chatto, who is one of Harry’s godparents, was also there, looking lovely in blue. Her major accessory were her earrings: the diamond and pearl drop earrings that she wore on her own wedding day. The earrings once belonged to her mother, the late Princess Margaret. I’m not sure if the bit of bling on her belt is a jewel or a part of the garment.
