Casa Real |
Our countdown of the best royal jewels of 2020—because there were plenty of dazzling spots in the darkness—continues with #9: some of the lovely bejeweled official portraits published this year.
Casa Real |
In February, Spain’s royal court released a set of new official images of King Felipe VI, Queen Letizia, and their daughters. The king and queen posed in gala dress, with Letizia decked out in pieces from Spain’s grandest jewelry collection, the joyas de pasar. (We did a whole week of posts on the collection this year: the tiara, the earrings, the necklaces, the brooches, and the bracelets.)

For the images, Queen Letizia wore Queen Ena’s Fleur-de-Lis Tiara (nicknamed “La Buena,” or “the good one”), Ena’s fantastic diamond earrings, and Ena’s diamond bracelets. She’s also wearing the diamond fleur-de-lis brooch taken from the center of her Ansorena tiara. You can see more pictures from the portrait set over here!
Government of Canada |
A new portrait of Queen Elizabeth II in her role as Queen of Canada was released in October. The image shows the Queen wearing her married parure of sapphire jewels: the Belgian Sapphire Tiara, the George VI Sapphire Necklace and Earrings, and the bracelet she had made to match the suite.

In June, Crown Princess Victoria and Prince Daniel of Sweden celebrated their 10th wedding anniversary, and a gorgeous set of new portraits was released to mark the occasion. Several of them feature the couple wearing full gala dress.

In this image, Victoria wears the Connaught Diamond Tiara with the Vasa Earrings and one of the family’s diamond rose brooches. You’ll note that she’s also wearing the same Elie Saab gown that she wore for her pre-wedding concert in 2010.
