As we’ve seen over the past few weeks, the Duchess of Cambridge’s jewelry box is brimming with jewels set with precious and semi-precious stones. But she’s also been loaned several pieces of jewelry by her grandmother-in-law, Queen Elizabeth II. Today’s diamond chandelier earrings are among those borrowed jewels.

2. Two state visits this week = two tiaras! In Sweden, Queen Silvia wore the glittering Queen Sofia’s Tiara, which is also sometimes called the Nine-Prong Tiara (for obvious reasons).

Seventy-nine years ago today, King George VI and Queen Elizabeth of the United Kingdom were crowned in Westminster Abbey. Bertie and Elizabeth, who are the parents of the present Queen, were never expected to reign, but after the abdication of his elder brother, King Edward VIII, suddenly placed them on the throne. Their coronation was a glittering affair, and today, we can relive it through newsreel footage from the day. How many royals in their tiaras and coronation jewels can you spot?
