The luminous peridot, the birthstone of August babies, doesn’t get enough credit for its beauty, if you ask me. In the hands of expert jewelers, these olive green gems sparkle with an incredible internal fire. Today’s jewels, a suite of peridot and diamond pieces that currently reside in the States, show precisely how lovely the gems can be.

Designed in 2006 by Ingo Henn, the suite features 16 peridots and 700 diamonds set in platinum. A diamond ribbon and bow design motif unites the pieces from the suite, which includes a necklace, a pair of earrings, and a ring.

This view of the necklace demonstrates the depth and dimension of the necklace’s setting.

And here, you get a good view of the diamond bows that form a major part of the necklace. These resemble classic lover’s knots to me.

The suite’s earrings feature diamond bow studs that match the elements in the necklace, from which large peridots and a fringe of diamonds are suspended.

The peridot set in the suite’s ring is just incredible. Look at the fire inside that stone!

You can see the entire suite on display in the Smith Gem Vault at the Houston Museum of Natural Science. (This is the same museum that houses the incredible McFerrin Faberge collection!) Which royal woman do you think would wear this suite of jewels most successfully?
