Baden Jewels for Silvia in Berlin

Get excited, jewelry lovers: we’ve got a couple of unusual sightings from this evening’s dinner at Charlottenburg Palace in Berlin. Queen Silvia of Sweden, who is on a visit with King Carl XVI Gustaf to Germany, paid tribute to one of Sweden’s other German-born queens: Victoria of Baden.

You’ll likely recognize the tiara very quickly: it’s the Baden Fringe Tiara. We see this one fairly regularly these days, but Queen Silvia rarely wears it anymore — it’s usually Crown Princess Victoria who trots this one out.

Even more exciting though? THAT BROOCH. Like the tiara, this piece belonged to Victoria of Baden.

In the picture above, you can see the brooch pinned to Victoria of Baden’s dress — in this case, just above the Baden Fringe, which she’s wearing as a corsage ornament.

Victoria’s also wearing the brooch in each of the portraits above. Please correct me if I’m wrong — but isn’t this the first time we’ve seen Silvia wear this brooch in public?

King Carl XVI Gustaf and Queen Silvia of Sweden are on a visit to her home country of Germany this week. Let’s have a look at the jewelry she wore on the first day, including a glittering banquet, shall we?

Silvia arrived in Germany wearing a large necklace of multi-colored pearls and mabe pearl earrings. The small red bow pinned to her jacket is the ribbon of Germany’s Order of Merit.

Here’s a look at her bracelets and rings from the same event. You’ll note pearls among her usual bangles. I’m always intrigued by Silvia’s double-faced watch, and I’d love to know what time zone the second clock is set to!

At the evening’s banquet, Silvia brought along some serious bling, and I’ve got close-ups to share.

She wore the Connaught Diamond Tiara, an heirloom from Crown Princess Margareta, that dates to 1905.

Here’s a closer look at the family’s diamond and pearl drop earrings.

She also added one of the diamond rivieres from the Bernadotte collection. This view lets you see the teeny loop on the central stone that allows a pendant to be attached to the necklace.

And finally, she brought out one of my favorite Swedish royal pieces: the diamond zig-zag patterned bracelet.

All in all, a very successful glittering outing, if you ask me. What say you?
