While many royal watchers’ eyes were on Canada, two of Europe’s queens were out and about in major earrings yesterday. Here’s a look at Letizia’s and Maxima’s jewel choices on Monday…

Queen Letizia of Spain spent Monday in Madrid at the “Save Food 2016” Congress. For the event, she chose earrings from her growing collection of pieces by Coolook. This pair is set with blue quartz, and was worn for the first time in April of this year.

In Katwijk, Queen Maxima of the Netherlands attended the Future of Finance conference as a part of her advocacy for financial inclusion. She wore some major golden jewels for the day, including a large pair of bamboo-style hoop earrings and a rigid golden necklace.

On her right hand, we also got a glimpse of one more piece: a ring with two asymmetrical gold beads.

Royal Tour of Canada: Government House Reception

After a day of casual events in Bella Bella, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge fancied up for an evening Government House reception in Victoria. Kate wore a new red gown by Preen — and added a few blingy touches, too.

Kate’s earrings are a pair we’ve seen before: the baroque pearl and Swarovski crystal earrings from Soru Jewellery. Kate debuted these earlier this year, with outings at the Natural History Museum and at Wimbledon. Love that the updo gives us a great look at the earrings.

We also saw a second outing on this tour for the Diamond Maple Leaf Brooch, which has been loaned to Kate for the tour by the Queen. The brooch was made by Asprey in 1939 for the Queen Mother. You can read about its history here and see photos of Kate wearing it on her arrival in Canada here.

I love the dress, and you all know that I love it when Kate brings out a brooch, but I’m not completely sold on the brooch’s placement on the gown. What say you?

Royal Tour of Canada: New Earrings in Bella Bella

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge continued their tour of western Canada today with a visit to rain-soaked Bella Bella. Kate was in more casual attire today, so the jewelry was kept to a minimum — but we did get a new earring debut!

The earrings are by Pippa Small, a new jewelry designer to Kate. Based in London, Small specializes in pieces that her website describes as “different, organic, ethnic and ethical.” The brand has shops in Notting Hill and Los Angeles.

Kate’s earrings are part of Small’s Gold Kite range. The earrings from the line feature golden kite-shaped pendants in different sizes and layered options. Kate’s pair appears to include two kite pendants. A similar version (with three kite pendants) retails here for $470.

The earrings added a bit of interest to an otherwise casual outfit — but I think both were particularly appropriate for the occasion.
