On Sunday in Stockholm, the newest member of the Swedish royal family was christened in the chapel at Drottningholm Palace. Princess Leonore, the daughter of Princess Madeleine and Christopher O’Neill, was christened on her parents’ first wedding anniversary, and many members of the royal family helped to celebrate. Let’s have a look at the jewelry that was donned for the occasion, shall we?

Leonore Lilian Maria Bernadotte O’Neill, who is a princess styled Her Royal Highness even though her father is a commoner, received a significant piece of jewelry along with her christening: the Royal Order of the Seraphim. Leonore’s cousin, Princess Estelle, also received baby-sized insignia for the Seraphim at her christening in 2012. The order dates to 1748.
Little Leonore’s mother wore minimal jewelry on the day, allowing her baby daughter to remain in the spotlight. Her small pendant earrings were a lovely accessory to her pink lace dress and pink fascinator. She also wore her father’s family order.
Madeleine’s sister, Crown Princess Victoria, is one of Princess Leonore’s godparents. For the service, Victoria wore a gorgeous pair of white gold earrings and a headpiece that echoed one worn more than thirty years earlier by her mother at the christening of Prince Carl Philip. (For a photo from that christening, as well as photographs from many other Swedish royal christenings from the last century, visit The Royal Roundup!) Victoria also wore bracelets on each wrist, plus her father’s family order.
Queen Silvia wore a pearl necklace and pearl earrings with her blue lace dress and coordinating hat, as well as her husband’s family order. The necklace, which has a diamond clasp, is one of the most significant heirlooms worn on the day. It once belonged to Princess Sibylla, the King’s late mother. Queen Silvia also wore Sibylla’s pearls at the christenings of each of her three children.
Princess Christina, who is one of Princess Madeleine’s godparents, piled on the jewelry for her great-niece’s christening, adding a necklace, earrings, and bracelets to her blue ensemble.
She may not be a princess yet, but Sofia Hellqvist (partner of Prince Carl Philip) also attended today’s christening. She kept her jewelry simple, wearing a delicate necklace, earrings, and bracelets.
