One hundred years ago today, the streets of London were filled with well-wishers who had gathered to catch a glimpse of a royal bride. Princess Mary, the only daughter of King George V and Queen Mary of the United Kingdom, married Viscount Lascelles in a glittering ceremony at Westminster Abbey, one of the first major royal weddings held after the end of World War I. Today, to celebrate the centenary of the event, we’ve got a closer look at the wedding day—plus some of the magnificent bejeweled gifts that the royal bride received.
Princess Benedikte’s Gorgeous Royal Amethysts
Princess Benedikte of Denmark is the only one of her sisters not to have the title of Queen, but nevertheless, she has a royal jewelry collection worthy of any monarch or consort. Today, we’ve got a closer look at one of my favorite pieces from her jewelry box: her amethyst necklace.

Many of the grandest pieces of jewelry made their way into Queen Elizabeth II’s collection thanks to her jewel-mad grandmother, Queen Mary. Today’s earrings, the Gloucester pendants, are no exception, although their history can be traced back generations further than even Mary herself.
