The Big Four of the British royal family — Queen Elizabeth II, the Duke of Edinburgh, the Prince of Wales, and the Duchess of Cornwall — are in Cardiff today for a variety of engagements, including the opening of the Welsh National Assembly. Here’s a look at the jewels that they brought with them…

The Queen wore a brooch that she’s had for nearly 70 years: the Flower Basket Brooch. It’s fitting that she chose it for a visit to Wales, because it was given to her by her parents to mark the birth of the Prince of Wales in 1948.

Here’s a fairly good close-up of the details of the brooch from today’s Cardiff visit. You get a good look here at the ruby, diamond, and sapphire flowers in the diamond “basket,” plus the emerald ribbon that borders the basket’s base.

We didn’t get great photos of Camilla or her jewels today, unfortunately, but in this image taken at the National Assembly, you can see some of the details. She wore one of her jewelry uniforms: multi-stranded pearl necklace with diamond clasp, pearl and diamond earrings, and a brooch. Her brooch choice was also very appropriate: her diamond and gray pearl Prince of Wales feather brooch. You can see a much clearer look at the brooch from another of our recent posts.
