The Emperor and Empress of Japan have been on a trip to Vietnam and Thailand for the past week or so, and we’ve seen several major brooches on Empress Michiko so far. For Saturday’s visit to Hue, she went for an even bolder, more modern piece.

Michiko chose a brooch of an abstract floral design, made of mixed metals, for a meeting with volunteers from the Japanese International Cooperation Agency.

She also wore pear-shaped pearl stud earrings and a delicate necklace with round pearls.
