The Queen was out and about in London yesterday, wearing very appropriate jewels for February.

HM opened the new premises of the Royal National ENT and Eastman Dental Hospital in central London on Wednesday, unveiling a plaque and chatting with staff and patients.

She was dressed in a regal purple ensemble for the occasion, featuring a hat and coordinating coat. The colors of the coat and hat vary a bit in photos because of the lighting and shadows (including this image, where the hat and coat look to be different shades), but they do appear to be a matched set.

A purple outfit like this definitely calls for amethysts, and the Queen chose one of her modern Amethyst Floral Brooches for the occasion. We recently discussed the brooches in-depth in this post.

The brooch is one of a pair of coordinating jewels; the panel above shows the differences between the two. For Tuesday’s visit, the Queen wore the brooch on the right side of the panel.

It’s been a bit since we’ve seen one of these brooches in public; the last major appearance came in March 2019, when she wore the same brooch for a reception at Buckingham Palace to mark the 50th anniversary of the Prince of Wales’s investiture.

Here’s another view of today’s outing for the brooch. Love the Queen in purple!
