On Friday, members of the British royal family joined some of the brightest creative talents in Britain to give thanks for the life of the late 1st Earl of Snowdon. Here’s a look at some of the jewels worn at the thanksgiving service, which was held at St. Margaret’s Church at Westminster Abbey.

The Queen, who was the late Lord Snowdon’s sister-in-law during his marriage to Princess Margaret, chose bright violet for the memorial service. Fittingly, she wore her floral brooch set with diamonds and amethysts.

As the family exited the church, the Queen’s copy of the order of service was visible. The cover calls the late earl “the 1st Earl of Snowdon.” I’d imagine this is one of the first uses of that version of his title; his son, David, is now the 2nd Earl of Snowdon.

Here’s the current Earl of Snowdon with his daughter, now Lady Margarita Armstrong-Jones, and his aunt, the Queen.

Margarita wore a simple bracelet and carried a clutch emblazoned with her name.

The new Countess of Snowdon went simple, donning little jewelry for the service.

Her sister-in-law, Lady Sarah Chatto, wore a lovely pair of earring that belonged to her mother, Princess Margaret. The top button of her cardigan sweater also featured an embellished bauble.

Here’s a close-up of the pearl and diamond earrings — a favorite royal pair of mine. Sarah wore these on her wedding day.

She also wore three different bracelets. One of the bangles on her left wrist seems like it might be set with a cabochon sapphire.

One appears to be made of diamonds and pearls.

The late earl’s other children also attended the service, including Lady Frances von Hofmannsthal. She wore small hoop earrings and rings.

Although members of Princess Margaret’s family still attend events with their aunt, it’s rarer to see all of Margaret’s grandchildren together in a single picture. Look how much they’ve grown! From left to right, we’ve got Lady Margarita Armstrong-Jones (14), Viscount Linley (17), Arthur Chatto (18), and Samuel Chatto (20). Margarita attends Tudor Hall School in Oxfordshire, while her brother, Charles, is at Eton College. Arthur Chatto, who also attended Eton, reportedly has military aspirations, and Samuel Chatto is a student at the University of Edinburgh.
