Princess Marie’s Multi-Gem Brooch

Although much of the jewelry favored by our Magpie of the Month, Princess Marie of Denmark, fits with her French chic style, her jewelry box also includes a few glittering pieces. Today’s brooch, a multi-gem jewel that she’s had for several years, certainly fits that description.

The gold brooch, which is set with diamonds, sapphires, rubies, and emeralds, first appeared on Marie in May 2012, at the christening of her daughter, Princess Athena.

Here’s a close-up of the brooch. According to a Billed-Bladet article published at the time of the christening, the brooch was a gift to Marie from her mother-in-law, Queen Margrethe II of Denmark. I’m not sure whether it was a newly-acquired piece or a royal heirloom.

Marie has worn the brooch on more than one occasion since. One of its most recent outings came in March 2017, when she wore it during the Belgian state visit to Denmark.
