As our celebration of the Bernadotte jewel collection continues, we’ve got a closer look today at one of their most brilliant jewels: the Swedish Diamond Lozenge Brooch.

The lozenge-shaped diamond brooch features floral elements in its design, as well as three large diamond brilliants set in the center of the piece.

The brooch is so incredibly packed with diamonds that it’s tough to get a good photo of the details, because it glitters so much under light. Here’s one more view of the piece that makes some of the details stand out a bit more.

The brooch has been with the Swedish royal family for several generations. Above, you’ll spot the brooch in this formal portrait of Queen Victoria of Sweden, taken around 1910. The brooch is pinned to the center of her bodice, with lots more diamonds and pearls draped around it.

The brooch is worn today by all of the senior members of the Swedish royal family. Above, Queen Silvia wears the brooch during the Nobel Prize Banquet in December 2016. She wore the brooch with additional diamonds from the family collection, including Queen Sofia’s Tiara and the Karl Johan Earrings.

…and here, a bit earlier, she wears the brooch during a state visit of Japan in March 2007. On this occasion, she paired the brooch with the King Edward VII Ruby Tiara and the Karl Johan Earrings.

The brooch was also a great favorite of the late Princess Lilian, who wears it here with the Boucheron Laurel Wreath Tiara and Queen Josefina’s Diamond Stomacher Necklace at the Nobel Prize Ceremony in December 2003.

It’s also been worn by Crown Princess Victoria and Princess Madeleine. Victoria has selected the brooch several times for the annual Nobel festivities in Stockholm. Above, she wears the brooch with the Six Button Tiara for the Nobels in December 2007…

…and again in December 2017, when she paired the brooch with the grand Swedish Aquamarine Kokoshnik and the family’s diamond floral earrings.

I think perhaps my favorite appearance of the brooch on Victoria came in December 2014, when she wore the brooch nestled in the back of her hair for the Nobels, adding a little bit of surprise extra sparkle to a jewelry ensemble that also included the Baden Fringe Tiara.
