We’ve got one more post in our week-long series on Queen Maxima’s royal jewels! Today, we’ve got a closer look at a vibrant pair of earrings, set with diamonds and tanzanites, from her jewelry box.
Well, I should probably say that they’re likely set with tanzanite. Queen Maxima debuted the earrings around a decade ago. Most jewelry watchers think that the bright blue stones are most probably tanzanites, because the blue stones are particularly vibrant, and they also have the violet hue typical of the gemstone. The square-cut gems are surrounded by diamonds and suspended from a vertical line set with even more diamonds. Maxima also owns a coordinating diamond and tanzanite ring.
Maxima wears the earrings for both daytime and evening occasions. Here, in January 2013, she wears them with a bright blue dress as she arrives at the Royal Palace in Amsterdam for the annual New Year’s Reception.
Just weeks after becoming Queen of the Netherlands, Maxima wore the earrings in June 2013 for the opening of the Holland Festival at the Westergasfabriek in Amsterdam.
A few days later, she wore the earrings again during the couple’s coronation tour of the country following King Willem-Alexander’s April inauguration. She wore the earrings with two of the family’s diamond ribbon brooches, and two of her gemstone tennis bracelets (as well as her wedding and engagement rings) for a visit to Venlo.
She wore the earrings for an important royal visit in November 2013: the first official visit to the Netherlands by King Philippe and Queen Mathilde of the Belgians following their ascension to the throne. On this occasion, Maxima also wore the bracelet from her tutti frutti suite.
Here, she wears the earrings for a visit to India in July 2014. She wore the earrings during a press conference at the Reserve Bank of India headquarters in Mumbai. She undertook the visit in her role as a Special Advocate of the UN Secretary-General for Inclusive Finance for Development.
In May 2017, she wore the earrings with the ribbon brooches again for an education seminar at The Hague Institute for Global Justice.
In January 2020, Maxima brought out the earrings once again to celebrate the new year. She wore them (with the coordinating ring and her gemstone-set tennis bracelets) as she arrived at the Royal Palace in Amsterdam for the New Year’s Reception on January 14…
…and again on the following day, January 15, for the new year’s reception for the Diplomatic Corps. This time, she also added an additional diamond and gold bracelet to her tennis bracelet stack.
