King Felipe VI and Queen Letizia of Spain made a public appearance in Madrid on Saturday to mark an important military observance, and Letizia brought along a familiar pair of earrings from her royal jewelry box.
Spain’s Día de las Fuerzas Armadas (or Armed Forces Day) celebrations began in 1978. Since the late 1980s, the event has been held on the Saturday closest to May 30. This year, that was Saturday, May 29. King Felipe and Queen Letizia joined the observance of the day in Madrid.
For the event, Queen Letizia was pretty in pink—and lots of it. She wore a tailored pink coat jacket with a coordinating bag and shoes.
Letizia’s jewelry, however, was an interesting study in contrasts.
Her main accessory was a pair of earrings from Tous, a Spanish jewelry and accessory brand. The earrings, which she has been wearing for more than five years, are set with rubies and emeralds.
The rubies set in the stud portion of the earrings lean decidedly pink, making them much more complementary to the pale pink coat than might have been expected.
On her left hand, Letizia also wore her gold Karen Hallam, with its open oval design.
What do you think: is the ruby/emerald/pink combination up your alley, or would you have paired different earrings with this royal ensemble?
