For an important awards ceremony in Spain in 2019, Queen Letizia wore a stunning pair of diamond and ruby earrings. Today, our Sparkling Spotlight shines on these earrings, which feature a modern take on a classic design.
The Spanish royals gathered in Oviedo on October 18, 2019, for the annual Princess of Asturias Awards ceremony. King Felipe VI and Queen Letizia attended with their daughters, the Princess of Asturias and Infanta Sofia, as well as his mother, Queen Sofia.
Queen Letizia wore a lovely red dress from a favorite designer, Felipe Varela, for the ceremony. The dress featured intricate pleating at the waist and sparkling dark red trim. She also wore dark red shoes and carried a silver-toned clutch bag.
The red and silver tones were picked up by her spotlight accessory: large statement earrings featuring cabochon rubies set in double diamond clusters. Each earring features a cluster stud and a cluster drop. The event was Letizia’s debut appearance in the jewels.
Letizia also wore her gold oval ring from Karen Hallam on her left hand.
The earrings in particular caught the attention of the public during this outing. What do you think: are these a fresh, bold take on a classic design, or too big to wear easily?
