We covered the glittering state banquet jewels from the Spanish state visit to Sweden last week, but I thought one more event from the visit was worth highlighting. Here’s a closer look at the floral jewels that both queens wore for a library visit on Thursday.
Queen Letizia of Spain joined Queen Silvia of Sweden for a special tour of the Bernadotte Library at the Royal Palace in Stockholm. The library, which was completed in the eighteenth century, holds more than 100,000 volumes, as well as the Swedish royal family’s extensive photograph collection.
The library staff gave both royal women a special tour of some interesting items in the collection with connections to Spain.
Queen Silvia also delivered remarks during the visit. As she stood behind the podium, we got a great view of the lovely suite of floral jewels that she chose for the occasion: a flower brooch with matching earrings.
Michael Campanella, the photographer who captured the visit, gave us this brilliant close-up of the brooch from Silvia’s floral suite. The details are shown beautifully here, from the carved petals and leaves to the gold, sapphire, and diamond accents. It looks like there’s a light blue gemstone section of the brooch beneath one of the leaves, but that’s an embellishment on Silvia’s tweed jacket.
Queen Letizia also went with a flower theme in her clothes and accessories for the event. Do we think the royal ladies and their dressers coordinated on the appearance?
With her light pink dress, which was embellished with floral appliques, Letizia wore her flower earrings from Yanes. She’s had the earrings, which are part of a set that also includes a coordinating ring, in her jewelry box for more than 15 years.
