Our week-long look at royal topazes concludes with a bridge to next month’s version of the gem: the sparkling blue topaz. Today, we’ve got a look at a fantastic pair of topaz girandoles worn by the Duchess of Cambridge.
Kate wore the earrings in October 2015 for the Royal Film Performance of Spectre, the 34th James Bond film. She attended alongside her husband, the Duke of Cambridge, and her brother-in-law, Prince Harry.
For the movie premiere, Kate wore a vintage-inspired dress from Jenny Packham. The diaphanous powder blue dress included design references to elegant gowns from the ’30s and ’40s.
Kate echoed the color of the dress with her jewels. These are the Pagoda Earrings from Robinson Pelham, the same firm that made Kate’s wedding earrings. The jewels feature pear-shaped blue topazes and diamonds set in platinum.
Like the dress, the earrings are a modern reference to classic design. These are girandoles, traditional chandelier-style earrings, that were especially popular in the early nineteenth century.
This was Kate’s first appearance in the earrings, but they’ve been previously spotted on another family member. Her mother, Carole Middleton, wore the earrings with a coordinating necklace for William and Kate’s wedding reception back in April 2011.
