This week, Princess Christina of the Netherlands, sister of Princess Beatrix and aunt of King Willem-Alexander, would have celebrated her 75th birthday. Sadly, she passed away two years ago. Today, we’re going to honor her memory with a look at a gorgeous gala appearance from almost a decade ago.
Princess Christina was the youngest of the four daughters of Queen Juliana and Prince Bernhard. In April 2013, she arrived for a special dinner at the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam on the eve of her eldest sister’s abdication. She was accompanied by her second sister, Princess Irene. Both wore diamonds and pearls for the occasion, with Princess Irene wearing the Antique Pearl Tiara with a dramatic black-and-white gown.
Princess Christina gleamed in a metallic gown in a coppery shade of gold, with gold lace sleeves and embellishments. She paired diamonds and pearls with the outfit.
Her tiara, the Dutch Laurel Wreath Tiara, is one that she wore often in her younger years for gala events like state dinners. It was lovely to see her make another appearance in the tiara many years later. She also wore diamond earrings and diamond bracelets on both wrists.
She finished off the look with a classic two-stranded pearl necklace. The necklace appeared to have a jeweled pendant, though that was lost a bit in the neckline of the gown. Finally, she tied together the pearl-and-diamond theme with a lovely pearl and diamond ring on her right hand.
