Time for more of our bejeweled February Flashbacks! Today, we’ve got a sparkling appearance from Queen Mathilde of the Belgians, back when she was the Duchess of Brabant.
In February 2005, the Belgian royals hosted President Constantinos Stephanopoulos of Greece for a state visit. He was the guest of honor at a gala dinner at the Palace of Laeken. From left to right in this group photograph, you’ll see Prince Laurent, Princess Claire, Princess Mathilde, Prince Philippe, Queen Paola, President Stephanopoulos, King Albert, Queen Fabiola, Princess Astrid, and Prince Lorenz.
For the dinner, Mathilde wore a lovely gown in shades of gold and blush, with a gorgeous lace overlay and gold accessories. (Including a very ’00s pair of shoes!)
Here’s a good look at the floral lace and beading detailing on the off-the-shoulder bodice of the gown.
Mathilde wore a vintage-inspired hairstyle with the look, and accessoried with a fantastic pair of earrings. These scroll earrings are set with both white and yellow diamonds. Made by the Belgian firm Leysen, the earrings were reportedly a gift from Philippe. Mathilde has been wearing them since at least 2003.
Mathilde loves gold jewelry, and she added a simple gold beaded bracelet to her right wrist with the outfit. She also wore her gold wedding ring on her right hand.
And on her left hand, she wore her original diamond and ruby engagement ring. Since then Philippe has upgraded the ring twice. First, he gave her a diamond and sapphire ring for their 10th anniversary in 2009. More recently, she’s been wearing a new ring with a blue stone as well.
