On this day in 2018, the Grimaldis held their annual spring charity gala, the Rose Ball, to benefit the Princess Grace Foundation. Today, we’ve got a look at the elegant jewels that Princess Caroline of Monaco wore for the occasion.
The Princess of Hanover arrived at the Salles des Étoiles in Monte Carlo with one of her best friends, the late Karl Lagerfeld, for the ball. Lagerfeld had partnered with French cartoonist Jean-Jacques Sempé to design the theme of the 2018 ball, which was “Manhattan.”
For the event, Princess Caroline looked back to the days of the Roaring ’20s and the Great Gatsby for her Manhattan-inspired ensemble. She wore a pink gown with clear ’20s references in its design, including the drop waist, the lace trim, and the tea-length skirt. No surprises here—the dress comes from Chanel, specifically the Spring 2018 couture collection.
With the light pink dress, Caroline also made a vintage-inspired statement with some of her jewels. She wore a diamond necklace with a striking pendant: a diamond, gold, and rock crystal starfish. The piece comes from Belperron, the firm founded by French designer Suzanne Belperron, whose work rose to prominence in the ’20s and ’30s.
Today, the company sells both vintage Belperron pieces and new jewels made based on her designs. Karl Lagerfeld was a major fan and champion of Belperron pieces. Later the same year, Caroline wore the starfish as a brooch for another gala event in Monaco.
With the starfish necklace, Caroline wore a modern pair of diamond and pearl drop earrings.
She also added a bracelet and rings to her ensemble, as well as a metallic clutch bag.
Here’s a closer look. Note the distinctive rings on her left hand, made of diamonds with black and white pearl drops. She also wore a major diamond ring on her right hand.
