On this day in 2017, the King and Queen of Sweden joined other members of the royal family for an official dinner at the Royal Palace and Stockholm. Today, we’ve got a look at the jewels that Queen Silvia wore for the occasion.
The Swedish royal court explained that the dinner was attended by “representatives from the diplomatic corps, the Riksdag, the Swedish Government, authorities, science, sport, business and culture, as well as people the Royal Family had met on visits.” For the white-tie dinner, Queen Silvia wore an evening gown of dark blue lace, with a coordinating wrap, shoes, and clutch bag. She also wore the sash and star of the Order of the Seraphim, plus the King’s Royal Family Order.
Queen Silvia accessorized with diamonds and pearls from the family collection. She wore the Connaught Diamond Tiara, an Edwardian jewel that was given to Crown Princess Margareta as a wedding present in 1905. The tiara was later a favorite of the King’s mother, Princess Sibylla, and it was the first tiara that Silvia wore in public. On this occasion, she paired the tiara with diamond and pearl drop earrings.
She also wore a diamond necklace, which nestled close to the neckline of her gown. She secured her order sash and her wrap with the family’s Diamond Lozenge Brooch.
We also caught a glimpse of a pair of bracelets on Silvia’s right wrist, both made of gold and set with diamonds. One of them is a Cartier Love Bracelet, a favorite piece of many European royals.
