The Princess Royal headed Down Under last week for a Platinum Jubilee tour of Australia and Papua New Guinea. Today, we’ve got a rundown of the necklaces, earrings, and brooches she packed for the trip.
Princess Anne and her husband, Vice Admiral Sir Timothy Laurence, arrived in Sydney on Saturday, April 9. After meetings with the Governor General of Australia and the Governor of New South Wales, Princess Anne and Sir Tim headed to the Sydney Royal Easter Show, which celebrated its bicentennial this year.
Anne attended the event in her role as patron of the Royal Agricultural Society of the Commonwealth, but it was also very clearly up her alley, and she looked to be enjoying every minute. She wore gold and diamond jewels for the occasion: earrings, a gold necklace studded with brilliants, and a gold floral brooch.
You can get a better idea of the design of the earrings and the brooch from this photograph.
Later, Anne and Tim attended the Royal Easter Show’s official opening ceremony, arriving in a horse-drawn carriage. (Love Sir Tim’s hat.)
Anne changed into an orange dress with a tan coat and accessories for the ceremony.
She wore a necklace of seed pearls, plus an intriguing pearl and diamond brooch and her diamond, pearl, and gold earrings from Andrew Grima.
On Sunday, April 10, Princess Anne and Sir Tim held several engagements, including an investiture, a garden party, and a dinner for representatives of the princess’s charities and patronages. First, though, they made a visit to the New South Wales Rural Fire Service Headquarters.
Anne wore appropriately simple gold jewelry for the visit.
On Monday, April 11, the final day of her three-day Australian visit, Princess Anne spoke with Australian soldiers as she and Sir Tim visited Holsworthy Barracks.
She wore gold jewels again, as well as a brooch featuring a pair of birds perched on a branch. It’s thought that these are Raggiana birds-of-paradise, the national bird of Papua New Guinea (where the tour continued after this Australian barracks visit).
The tour moved on to Papua New Guinea that afternoon, when the Princess and the Vice Admiral landed at Port Moresby. There, they met with the Prime Minister and the Governor General of Papua New Guinea.
For her arrival, Anne wore her gold earrings and a necklace with a gold pendant, as well as the Raggiana birds-of-paradise brooch.
Later in the day, the couple attended a reception for local business leaders and politicians.
Princess Anne wore a green dress for the occasion with her Grima earrings, a lovely necklace of pearls, and the birds of paradise brooch.
The final day of the tour was Tuesday, April 12. The day included several stops, including the opening of the National Cardiac Diagnostic Centre at Port Moresby General Hospital. Anne wore the same gold earrings and floral brooch that she’d worn with her blue outfit at the Sydney Royal Easter Show.
The couple’s stops also included a visit to Caritas Technical Secondary School (pictured above), as well as a wreath-laying at the Port Moresby (Bomana) War Cemetery. Anne and Tim also visited an ambulance center, opened a women’s resource center, met with elders and community leaders at Hanuabada Village, and made stops at an adventure park and the nation’s museum and art gallery.
Anne wore her gold earrings and her gold and diamond necklace with a gold brooch set with diamonds for part of the day’s events.
In the evening, the tour wrapped up with a state dinner at Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation Haus, hosted by Governor General Dadae. Anne delivered remarks in front of an impressively large photograph of herself (wearing her Gold Ribbon Brooch).
For the dinner, Anne wore an elegant white jacket with pearls and an interesting gold brooch. She also pinned the ribbon and badge of the nation’s Order of Logohu to her jacket.
Here’s one more look at Anne’s ensemble from the dinner. Afterward, she and Sir Tim headed back to Britain via Sydney. The princess reportedly impressed with her streamlined approach to royal tour life, traveling with just one aide and fixing her signature hairstyle herself during the trip.
