Diamonds, pearls, and sapphires were on the menu Tuesday evening, as the Danish royals hosted the Prime Minister of India for an official audience at the Amalienborg Palace complex in Copenhagen.
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi was hosted by Queen Margrethe II of Denmark for the reception in Copenhagen on Tuesday. He’s currently visiting several countries in Europe.
Queen Margrethe was joined by Crown Prince Frederik and Crown Princess Mary for the occasion, as well as Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen.
Queen Margrethe wore a favorite navy evening gown for the reception. The dress features a lace overlay on the bodice. This wasn’t a tiara event, but she did wear a decorative comb in her chignon.
She accessorized with diamonds, pearls, and sapphires. She wore her diamond and pearl wedding earrings, plus an elegant four-stranded pearl necklace. She also pinned her diamond and sapphire cluster brooch to the bodice of her gown.
This is the same brooch that she wore recently for the confirmation of Princess Isabella at Fredensborg. We talked about it extensively in that article.
Here’s one more look at her jewelry. You’ll note two significant rings: a large sapphire cocktail ring on her right hand, and her incredible diamond engagement ring on her left. You’ll also be able to spot the slender gold bangle worn by all female descendants of Princess Margaret of Connaught.
Crown Princess Mary was elegant in a blue evening gown with cape detailing for the reception. The spotlight jewelry of her ensemble was a pair of dazzling diamond fringe earrings.
The white gold and diamond earrings have been in Mary’s jewelry box for several years. They were reportedly purchased from the auction house Bruun Rasmussen in 2016. Here, she wears them in Oslo in May 2017, during the joint 80th birthday celebrations for King Harald V and Queen Sonja of Norway.
For Tuesday evening’s reception, she also wore rings on both hands, including one that looks to be set with a large blue gemstone, and a bracelet set with three pale blue gems.
