Today’s May birthday tiara celebration highlights a gorgeous bejeweled appearance from Princess Margaretha, a member of the grand ducal family of Luxembourg and the princely family of Liechtenstein.
Princess Margaretha is the younger daughter of Grand Duke Jean of Luxembourg and his wife, Princess Joséphine-Charlotte of Belgium. In November 1982, she married Prince Nikolaus of Liechtenstein. She’s the sister of the reigning Grand Duke of Luxembourg and a sister-in-law of the reigning Prince of Liechtenstein. Here, she and Nikolaus are attending a pre-wedding dinner for their nephew, Hereditary Grand Duke Guillaume of Luxembourg, in October 2012.
With her sparkling, sequin-festooned red gown, Margaretha wore jewels set with diamonds and aquamarines. These come from the Luxembourgish royal collection. They were commissioned for Margaretha’s mother, Grand Duchess Joséphine-Charlotte, in the middle of the 20th century. The bandeau-style tiara features large aquamarines interspersed with diamond lattice designs.
Margaretha also wore the coordinating earrings from the set, which have clip fasteners.
There was a notable jewelry “oops” moment during this appearance, as Margaretha accidentally clipped the earring backwards on her left ear. (I’m assuming this was remedied quickly and easily once she noticed.)
Margaretha finished off the look with a gold bangle bracelet also set with diamonds and aquamarines.
Here’s another look at the aquamarine bracelet, as well as a diamond ring on Margaretha’s right hand. I love the way that Margaretha used the colors of her dress, accessories, and jewels to reflect the light blue, white, and red colors of the Luxembourgish flag!
