Our Sparkling Spotlight this week is shining on tiaras set with pearls in honor of June’s birthstone. We’re starting things with an elegant, fun appearance from Queen Máxima in 2019.
In April 2019, King Willem-Alexander and Queen Máxima of the Netherlands dressed up for the annual gala dinner for the Diplomatic Corps at the Royal Palace in Amsterdam.
With her Grecian-inspired white evening gown, Máxima piled on diamonds and pearls from the family collection. The spotlight piece of the ensemble was the Antique Pearl Tiara, which features pear-shaped pearl toppers set on a diamond floral festoon base. The tiara was made in 1900, but the pearls are centuries older.
With the tiara, Máxima wore diamond button earrings with pear-shaped pearl drops, plus a diamond bracelet and a pearl and diamond ring. On her gown, she also pinned another important family jewel: the Dutch Diamond and Pearl Devant de Corsage Ornament. The large nineteenth-century brooch was originally worn by Queen Sophie of the Netherlands, the first wife of King Willem III. It features several rare pink diamonds in its design.
Here’s one more look at Máxima’s gorgeous monochromatic ensemble for the gala.
