The Duchess of Cambridge has made this diamond and pearl tiara her signature sparkler, and today, we’re shining our Sparkling Spotlight on one of her most gorgeous appearances in the classic jewel.
Kate chose the tiara for the annual Diplomatic Reception at Buckingham Palace in December 2018. She paired the jewel with a gorgeous sparkling gown by one of her favorite designers, Jenny Packham.
Here’s another view of the dress. The shimmering gown was almost a jewel of its own!
Kate accessorized with Queen Mary’s Lover’s Knot Tiara, a classic diamond and pearl piece that has been offered to her as a long-term loan by the Queen. The century-old tiara, commissioned by Mary as a copy of the famous Cambridge Lover’s Knot Tiara, has only been worn by four royal women: Queen Mary, Queen Elizabeth II, Diana, Princess of Wales, and the Duchess of Cambridge.
Kate paired the tiara with more jewels associated with the late Princess Diana, including the Collingwood Pearl Drop Earrings. Diana often wore the tiara and the earrings together as a set, and Kate has followed in her footsteps, pairing the jewels together frequently. (And, of course, Kate also wore her famous sapphire engagement ring, which first belonged to Diana, too.)
Kate also wore one more royal jewel on her right wrist: Queen Mary’s Diamond Choker Bracelet. And she pinned the Queen’s Royal Family Order to her bodice. That ribbon and badge, a personal gift of the monarch, is perhaps one of Kate’s very most important royal accessories.
