Just a few weeks after this year’s (postponed) Rose Ball, we were treated to sparkling diamonds from another annual Monegasque event: the Red Cross Gala.
The 73rd Red Cross Gala, held on Monday, followed the pattern set out by the 2021 edition of the event. Rather than being held in the Salle des Etoiles of the Monte Carlo Sporting Club, the gala was held outdoors in the square in front of the Casino de Monte-Carlo. Last year’s gala was reimagined as a concert, with a large stage built in front of the casino, but this year’s gala returned to its more traditional format, with long tables stretched across the plaza.
The spotlight guests at the gala were Prince Albert II and Princess Charlene of Monaco.
Prince Albert and Princess Charlene were dressed in summery formal attire for the event.
Charlene wore a sleeveless evening gown from Prada in a cool shade of ice blue, perfect for beating the heat that has descended across Europe recently. The gown featured some sparkle of its own, in the form of crystal and sequin embellishments.
Charlene’s jewels for the evening were set with diamonds. The pieces come from Van Cleef & Arpels. You’ll note the firm’s signature butterfly design on Charlene’s necklace.
The princess also wore a coordinating bracelet for the occasion.
Charlene isn’t the only European royal with VC&A butterfly jewels in her collection. Hereditary Grand Duchess Stéphanie of Luxembourg also has a suite of butterfly jewels, including a tiara, from the firm. She wears the tiara and coordinating earrings here in a photograph taken during the grand duchy’s National Day Gala in June 2016.
The only other member of the Grimaldi family in attendance at Monday’s gala was Camille Gottlieb, daughter of Princess Stéphanie of Monaco.
Camilla wore a playful pair of statement earrings from Dior with her Valentino dress for the gala.
She also wore rings on both hands, plus an eye-catching stack of gold Cartier Love Bracelets on her right wrist.
