Parliament season in Europe continued this week, with members of the Danish royal family, wearing a trio of sparkling brooches, attending the annual opening ceremonies for the Folketing in Copenhagen.
Queen Margrethe II of Denmark was joined by Crown Prince Frederik, Crown Princess Mary, and Princess Benedikte for the opening of the parliamentary session at Christiansborg Palace on Tuesday.
Queen Margrethe wore mint green for the event, accessorized with modern jewels. She chose gold earrings and a coordinating ring, as well as a very interesting brooch. The modern piece is a pastiche of various materials in different colors. I must admit that I don’t know anything about the provenance of this jewel, and I’d be grateful for more insights from anyone who does!
Here’s another look at her earrings as she departed from the event, wearing a matching coat over her jacket and skirt (and that intriguing brooch).
Crown Princess Mary chose gray with a dark purple pillbox hat for the session opening. She picked up the purple color of the hat with her spotlight jewel: a brooch studded with various gemstones, including amethysts. Interestingly, this entire ensemble is a repeat from the opening of parliament in 2017, including the brooch used in exactly the same placement.
The brooch, though, is definitely a separate jewel, as it has been worn with other outfits for other occasions. Here, for example, she wears the jewel in Sweden in April 2016 during the 70th birthday celebrations for King Carl XVI Gustaf.
Mary also wore a pair of floral diamond stud earrings. The gold chain of a necklace peeked out slightly from the neckline of her coat dress as well.
Princess Benedikte wore black and white tweed with a matching fur-trimmed hat for the event this year. She accessorized with pearl drop earrings and an interesting brooch. The piece appears to be a jeweled badge, complete with a small crown at the top.
