The Princess of Wales headed to Guildford on Wednesday for a visit to a maternity hospital, and brought along a brand-new pair of sparkling earrings for the occasion.
Kate arrived at the Royal Surrey County Hospital’s maternity unit for a visit on Tuesday. Working for the betterment of children and families has long been one of her favorite causes, and People reports that this visit was designed to “advance her understanding of the best practices in maternity care, as she works to further improvements for mothers and children across the United Kingdom.”
The princess met with both staff members and patients as she toured the facility. Amy Stubbs, deputy director of midwifery at the hospital, told People, “She was just delightful. She spent a lot of time talking to a lot of the staff and meeting mums and dadas and new babies across the whole service. It was a really joyful for everyone to have that opportunity and hugely validating for us as a service for her to take the time out to visit us.”
Here, Kate speaks with Sylvia Novak, who holds her infant daughter, Bianca.
Kate got a chance to cuddle with baby Bianca during the interaction as well. Stubbs noted that Kate “was particularly interested in maternal mental health and how we are supporting maternal mental wellbeing through pregnancy and in the early post-natal periods. She particularly spent a lot of time talking to staff and families about that aspect of care and how that felt for them.”
For the visit, Kate wore a new Karen Millen dress in a bright shade of goldenrod, paired with navy accessories that echoed the deep blue color of her famous sapphire engagement ring.
She also wore a brand-new pair of earrings from Emily Mortimer Jewellery. These are the brand’s Hera White Gold and Diamond Pear Detachable Drops, made of highly polished white gold and pavé-set diamonds.
Here’s a closer look at the earrings from the company’s website. Their description has already been updated following Wednesday’s visit: “As seen on the The Princess of Wales our Hera Gold and Diamond Earrings. Pear cut drops of polished gold surrounded by the sparkliest of pavé diamonds. We just can’t resist how versatile these incredible earrings are, wear just the diamond hoop for the day and add the drop for the evening.”
Here’s one more view of Kate wearing the earrings, which retail for £795. Smaller jewels were certainly appropriate for this engagement in a hospital setting where mask-wearing was involved, and these seem to have fit the bill beautifully.
