The Spanish royal family gathered in Madrid today for the annual National Day festivities, and Queen Letizia wore a favorite pair of pearl drop earrings for the occasion.
King Felipe VI and Queen Letizia of Spain were present for the annual National Day Military Parade in Madrid, where they were joined by Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez.
Infanta Sofia, the younger daughter of the King and Queen, was also present for the parade. Her sister, the Princess of Asturias, would normally also join the family for this event, but she’s currently a student at the United World College of the Atlantic in Wales.
Both mother and daughter chose dresses with dotted prints for the parade. Queen Letizia opted for small ivory polka dots on a sage green background, while Infanta Sofia wore larger, more abstract dots on a blue dress.
Letizia echoed the dots on her dress with her jewels, choosing a favorite pair of pearl drop earrings from her collection. The earrings feature bezel-set diamond studs and Australian pearl drops, and they’ve resided in her jewelry box for a very long time.
Letizia has been wearing the earrings for more than a decade, and she’s chosen them for some very important family occasions. Here, she wears them for the baptism of Princess Leonor at the Royal Palace in Madrid in January 2006.
She also wore the earrings for the baptism of Infanta Sofia, held at the Royal Palace in July 2007.
She’s also worn them for gala occasions. Here, in April 2015, she pairs the earrings with her own Ansorena tiara for the 75th birthday celebrations for Queen Margrethe II of Denmark.
We got a good look at the details of the earrings during this appearance, the annual Cervantes Awards in Alcala de Henares in April 2012.
The details are also quite clear in this photograph, showing Letizia wearing them with the same black-and-white ensemble at the Accion Magistral in Madrid in December 2017.
Letizia has reached for these earrings for the National Day celebrations multiple times during her royal marriage. Her earliest appearance in the pearl drops at the military parade came in October 2008.
She wore them again on National Day in October 2012, paired with a tweed suit.
She coordinated her earrings with a lovely black-and-white embroidered coat dress for the National Day parade and reception in October 2016.
And in October 2017, she wore the earrings on National Day with an heirloom jewel: the Countess of Barcelona’s Pearl Drop Brooch.
Here’s one more look at Queen Letizia wearing the earrings for today’s National Day parade.
