The Prince and Princess of Wales headed to Scarborough on Thursday, and Kate wore a very affordable pair of modern earrings for the visit.
William and Kate arrived in Scarborough for a series of engagements related to their Royal Foundation. Their visit was timed with the launch of collaborative project funding between their foundation and local institutions focused on supporting the mental health of young people.
Here, Prince William speaks with one of the local people who uses the services of The Rainbow Centre, an organization that offers support for those in need in Scarborough.
The royal couple participated in a roundtable with several community members, listening and conversing about the center and its role in the community.
They also made a visit to the center’s on-site nursery, having fun joining in with several of the littlest clients as they played with modeling dough.
During the Scarborough visit, they also made a stop at The Street, a local community hub development, and greeted members of the public.
For the visit, Kate was elegant in a monochromatic camel ensemble, including a coat and a matching sweater and skirt. She pinned a paper poppy to her lapel, a reminder that Remembrance Sunday is coming up soon. (The commemorations are next weekend, with the Festival of Remembrance on November 12 and Remembrance Sunday on November 13.)
The monochromatic theme continued through to Kate’s jewelry. She wore a pair of double circle earrings from Accessorize, which feature a twist detail on the larger circle pendant. The earrings are made of brass, and they retailed (when they were in stock) for a remarkable £5.
Kate wore the earrings for the first time in Dublin in March 2020, during the couple’s visit to Ireland. She chose them for a reception hosted by Deputy Prime Minister Simon Coveney.
She’s worn the earrings numerous times since, including an appearance at Twickenham Stadium in London in February 2022, during a Six Nations Rugby match between England and Wales.
Here’s another look at the earrings as they were worn on Thursday. I know that many are always hoping to see Kate in more substantial jewels, but I think it’s worth considering the moment and the message here. The Waleses were in Scarborough to focus on increased funding for mental health initiatives, at a time when economic issues are front and center in Britain more generally. Elaborate jewelry certainly would not have been the move here, so I can understand why an affordable repeated pair were chosen.
And I’m guessing that Kate and her dressers were also interested in carrying out the gold-toned theme of her outfit with her accessories, and these earrings fit that bill, too. As a jewelry lover, of course, I’m always happy to see more sparkle. I might have chosen a pair of simple topaz stud earrings, for example, to go with the honey-colored look. What other earring options would you have paired with the outfit, with both the color scheme and the economic optics in mind?
