Queen Letizia made a smashing appearance in Barcelona on Friday, wearing an elegant blue gown with heirloom diamonds and sapphires.
King Felipe VI and Queen Letizia of Spain were glamorous in gala attire on Friday to celebrate the 175th anniversary of the Círculo del Liceo, a private club in Barcelona.
The club shares a building with the Gran Teatro del Liceo, one of the oldest and most prestigious theaters in Barcelona. King Felipe and Queen Letizia were received by officials from Barcelona and Catalonia, as well as representatives of the theater and the club.
The King and Queen also presented gold medals to several club members during the gala.
King Felipe was dapper in a tuxedo for the event, while Queen Letizia wore a rather spectacular evening gown from her archive.
The blue evening gown, made by Carolina Herrera, features a draped asymmetrical neckline and a short train. Letizia paired it with gold shoes and a matching gold clutch bag for the gala.
Letizia previously wore the dress for a banquet at the Guildhall in London during the state visit to the United Kingdom in July 2017. On that occasion, she also wore the Spanish Floral Tiara, a pair of diamond and sapphire statement earrings, her diamond fleur-de-lis brooch, the joyas de pasar bracelets, and the insignia of the Order of Carlos III.
This time around, Letizia chose different diamonds and sapphires from the royal family’s collection.
Her diamond and sapphire earrings were previously worn by her mother-in-law, Queen Sofia. Here, Sofia wears the earrings with other coordinating pieces (a necklace and bracelet) for a dinner in Canada in the 1970s.
Queen Letizia has been wearing the earrings since 2017. That April, she wore them with the Spanish Floral Tiara and the diamond fleur-de-lis brooch for a state banquet in Tokyo during the couple’s state visit to Japan.
More recently, we saw Queen Letizia wear the earrings at the Frankfurt Book Fair during the October 2022 state visit to Germany.
Queen Letizia also added a sapphire and diamond bracelet to her right wrist and wore her ever-present Karen Hallam ring on the index finger of her left hand.
