The eyes of the film industry and the royal world were on London on Sunday evening, as the Prince and Princess of Wales made a glamorous return to the BAFTAs.
Prince William and Princess Catherine arrived on the red carpet ahead of the BAFTA Film Awards at the Royal Festival Hall in London, their first appearance at the event since 2020. (We looked back at Kate’s previous BAFTA jewelry looks in an article last week.)
Inside the Royal Festival Hall, the Prince and Princess chatted with several BAFTA higher-ups in the audience, including Emma Baehr and Jane Millichip. William has been the president of BAFTA since 2010, the year before their royal wedding.
William and Kate also met with several other notables at the ceremony, including BAFTA chair and film producer Krishnendu Majumdar. They also met with category winners and rising star nominees.
The couple’s look for the evening was monochrome. William wore a black velvet evening jacket, while Kate matched him in a black-and-white ensemble of her own.
The princess opted for a Grecian-inspired evening gown from Alexander McQueen for the event. If the white dress looks familiar, there’s a good reason.
It’s a reworked version of the McQueen dress she wore for the same event back in February 2019. On that outing, the dress featured a floral detail at the shoulder.
The reworked version of the gown features extra fabric looped at the shoulder and cascading down Kate’s left arm. And speaking of arms, the most eye-catching part of the look was definitely the long black evening gloves that she paired with the dress.
Touches of gold were added to the outfit with Kate’s shoes and a pair of statement earrings. The flower detail may have been removed from the dress, but the design motif reappeared in the earrings Kate chose this time around.
The gold-toned earrings feature a trio of gathered blossoms, plus dangling petal pendants.
The bloggers at UFO No More swiftly identified these as Zara’s Cascading Flower Earrings.
Here’s a look at the earrings as depicted on Zara’s website. The company describes them as “metal earrings with flower shaped charms and jewel appliqué.” The extremely affordable earrings (which are not in stock as of today) retailed for less than $30 USD.
Here’s one more look at the royal couple arriving at the ceremony. I have a feeling this may be a divisive sartorial look in many ways—but I love that Kate took an existing piece from her wardrobe and put a new spin on it.
P.S.: There was another royal-adjacent jewelry moment at the BAFTAs, too: actor Regé-Jean Page wearing a pair of diamond dress clips from Boucheron’s new Queen Elizabeth II-inspired jewelry collection!
