February is, of course, the month for amethysts. Queen Máxima of the Netherlands has several amethyst jewels in her collection, including a pair of earrings worn just last month.
On January 18, Queen Máxima left the Royal Palace in Amsterdam after attending the annual new year reception for members of the diplomatic corps, on her way to Davos in Switzerland. She wore a purple trouser suit with black accessories and a black cape-style jacket as she departed.
She matched the purple color of her blouse and trousers with her jewels: major statement earrings set with diamonds and amethysts.
The large trefoil-shaped earrings have been attributed to JAR, the exclusive brand run in Paris by American-born jeweler Joel Arthur Rosenthal.
The earrings sparkled mightily in the mid-January sun as Máxima stepped out of the palace. The amethyst trefoil design of the jewels features a slim border of diamonds, emphasizing the shape of the jewels.
Máxima kept the rest of her jewelry simple. She wore her engagement and wedding rings on her left hand, plus a gold bangle set with diamonds in a repeating square design on her right wrist.
