Last week, royal tiaras were sparkling once again in Luxembourg! Here’s a closer look at the gorgeous tiaras and jewels worn by three ladies from the grand ducal family for the New Year reception.
Grand Duke Henri and Grand Duchess Maria Teresa of Luxembourg were joined by Hereditary Grand Duke Guillaume, Hereditary Grand Duchess Stéphanie, Prince Félix, Prince Louis, Princess Alexandra, and Prince Sébastien for the white-tie reception at the Grand Ducal Palace. Representatives from the government, including the legislature and the judiciary, were present, along with members of the diplomatic corps, the clergy, and other prominent guests.
A few years ago, it was decided to move the grand white-tie reception from the National Day celebrations in June to the New Year celebrations in January. The move helped to take pressure off the packed calendar during the National Day festivities, and it added a little extra sparkle at the beginning of the year as well.
At this year’s New Year reception, we saw three royal ladies in tiaras and jewels. Grand Duchess Maria Teresa led the party in a gorgeous purple gown, accessorized with the Belgian Scroll Tiara and pearl drop earrings.
Hereditary Grand Duchess Stéphanie, who is expecting her second child, wore a light blue evening gown with the bandeau tiara and jewels from the family’s aquamarine parure.
But it was Princess Alexandra who made the biggest tiara splash of the event. The bride-to-be, who will marry her fiancé, Nicolas, in April, wore one of the grandest tiaras in the family collection: the Chaumet Emerald Tiara. The striking Art Deco diadem was first pictured on Alexandra’s great-grandmother, Grand Duchess Charlotte of Luxembourg. It’s generally been reserved for the use of the most senior royal lady of the family—currently that’s Alexandra’s mother, Grand Duchess Maria Teresa—but now Alexandra has worn the piece in public as well. Spectacular!
With the tiara, Alexandra also wore additional diamond and emerald pieces. Her emerald and diamond chandelier-style earrings, as well as her emerald and diamond bracelet, have also frequently been worn by Grand Duchess Maria Teresa for gala events.
