This week, the Queen of the Netherlands brought us some magnificent bejeweled splendor on the first day of a state visit to Slovakia, featuring an emerald and diamond tiara and spectacular sapphire and diamond jewels.
King Willem-Alexander and Queen Máxima of the Netherlands arrived in Bratislava for the start of a three-day state visit to Slovakia on Tuesday. They were received at the Presidential Palace by President Zuzana Caputova and her partner, Juraj Rizman.
King Willem-Alexander and President Caputova reviewed a guard of honor, and then the royal couple signed a guest book.
King Willem-Alexander and Queen Máxima also joined the president and her partner as they visited a memorial to the journalist Jan Kuciak and his fiancée, Martina Kusnirova, who were killed in 2018.
For the daytime engagements on the first day of the visit, Queen Máxima wore a navy blue ensemble, accessorized with fabulous diamond and sapphire jewels.
The pieces worn for the welcome ceremony included diamond and sapphire earrings (including one pendant that was attached incorrectly), the family’s round diamond and sapphire brooch, and Máxima’s diamond wedding bracelet.
She also wore the ring from her diamond and tanzanite suite on her right hand.
On Tuesday evening, King Willem-Alexander and Queen Máxima were the guests of honor at a state banquet, which was held at the Reduta, the home of the Slovak Philharmonic, in Bratislava.
Queen Máxima wore a dramatic green gown from Jan Taminiau for the banquet, while President Caputova was elegant in royal blue.
We’ve seen Máxima wear the green Taminiau gown on previous occasions, including an outing at a state dinner in Dublin in 2019. She’s always paired pieces from the family’s emerald parure with the dress. In Ireland, she wore the tiara and the brooch from the set, plus her own diamond and emerald earrings and the family’s large emerald cabochon pendant.
On Tuesday, she again wore pieces from the Dutch Emerald Parure with the gown. She wore the emerald setting of the suite’s tiara, plus the necklace and bracelet from the set.
She added her own emerald and diamond earrings to the look as well. The small diamond and emerald brooch pinned to the waist of her dress is a family heirloom, worn by multiple generations of Dutch royal women.
Here’s a closer look at the lovely diamond and emerald brooch.
The royal photographer Albert Nieboer captured this stunning image of Máxima’s jewelry from the banquet, showing the bracelet from the emerald parure and the gorgeous diamond and emerald ring that she wore on her right hand.
Máxima finished off the look with another diamond and emerald bangle bracelet on her left wrist.
