Wednesday’s state visit events in Belgium brought us even more sparkle from Queen Mathilde and Queen Máxima—including a little hidden tiara moment during the return concert!
The Dutch state visit to Belgium continued on Wednesday with a slate of daytime engagements that showcased culture, community, and innovation.
The royals made stops at various locations throughout the day In Brussels, they visited the Climate Tech Forum at Tour & Taxis.
Next, Mathilde and Máxima headed to the Queen Elisabeth Music Chapel in Waterloo, where they were treated to musical performances.
In Charleroi, they made stops at scientific facilities and at the Institut St-Andre.
For the day’s engagements, Queen Máxima reached for an outfit by Natan that she’s worn before for foreign visits.
She wore the same pearl and peridot earrings with the dress and headpiece that she’d previously paired with the ensemble in Berlin. We also saw her wear the earrings on King’s Day this year.
She picked up another shade of green from her outfit with her jewelry as well, wearing a diamond and emerald cluster ring on her right hand.
Floral bangles on her right wrist completed the daytime look.
Queen Mathilde opted for a floral ensemble on Wednesday as well, wearing shades of green and pink.
She accessorized with a favorite pair of diamond drop earrings.
She also added some of her usual gold bracelets on her left wrist.
And she referenced the colors of her dress with an interesting ring. This appears to be set with a cabochon emerald in gold with ruby accents, plus enameling on the shoulders of the ring in a fish-scale pattern.
On Wednesday evening, the Dutch royal couple hosted a return concert event for their Belgian counterparts in Flagey.
Both royal ladies wore elegant gowns by the Dutch designer Jan Taminiau for the black-tie event. Queen Máxima wore a gorgeous Grecian-inspired gold gown that we’ve seen her wear often over the years, including appearances during state visits to Sweden in 2014 and to Luxembourg in 2018. Queen Mathilde debuted a new gown from the designer that features floral embellishments on the skirt.
Queen Máxima wore diamonds and citrines with the dress, including the large diamond and citrine cluster ornament that she’s worn often throughout the years with various brooches. This time around, she suspended it as a pendant from a grand diamond rivière necklace. (Interestingly, Mode Koningin Máxima writes that the citrine is one of her personal jewels.) She also wore her large citrine bracelet on her right wrist, plus several familiar diamond bracelets on her left.
Queen Mathilde also wore lots of diamonds. She repeated the same diamond drop earrings she’d worn during the day, as well as the diamond floral bracelet she’d worn during the daytime events on Tuesday. And she also managed to sort of smuggle in a tiara as well! Her necklace is a secondary setting of the Brabant Laurel Wreath Tiara, one of the magnificent wedding gifts she received back in 1999. She finished off the look with a lovely blue gemstone ring on her left hand.
